006 - 1% Better

Hi,

I don’t know of any other job where everybody feels like an impostor. This week, I spoke to a teacher with over ten years experience who still feels that at any moment, somebody will walk in and say that they’ve been caught out. Maybe we forget to reflect on our successes.

Perhaps it is because we don’t always get the results from our effort in the way that we expect (see image) but changes that seem small and unimportant at first will compound if you’re willing to stick with them. I am currently reading ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear, it demonstrates that with a small goal - improving our regular practice 1% a day we end up 37 times better off when those habits are implemented long term.

If you are interested there is an excellent summary of the book here or you can watch the author talk here
