013 - Your expectations

Hi,

I‘m so used to thinking that I haven’t worked hard enough, or efficiently enough that it is my default feeling at the end of the day. I read a post by Ali Abdaal that helped me to think a little bit differently. He quoted the article ‘Your standards are too high

‘I’m a perfectionist, and a pretty neurotic person, so a common experience for me is feeling dissatisfied and guilty. Some part of me is deeply convinced that everything should be easy, and fast. That if it’s not, I am failing. That I could have done better.’

This article resonated with me, it is really easy to focus on the things that didn’t get completed or corners that were cut. The importance of setting targets should be to aim a little higher than where you are, not to cause a feeling of guilt when not achieved.

Before judging ourselves too negatively, look at the targets that we have set. It’s just as likely that they were not realistic.
